The Sound of Spinning Monkey Studios: Our Game Music Is Now on Suno

Our games and stories are beginning to find their sound.

We have created a new home on Suno for music from Spinning Monkey Studios, including themes from Troll & Unicorn and soundtracks for games such as Candy Dash, Smooth Brains vs Smartarses, Braincell Breakdown and Scope Creep.

You can listen to the growing collection here:

Braincell Breakdown brings the Smooth Brains and Smartarses into a top-down office arena.

From Amiga tracker files to finished game music

Some of this music has taken a surprisingly long journey.

The in-game music for Candy Dash began as a composition I created years ago while experimenting with tracker music on an Amiga 500+. I recently rediscovered the original .it module file and opened it using ModPlug Tracker on my PC.

After converting the old composition into an audio file, I uploaded it to Suno and asked it to polish the piece into energetic retro game music with the spirit of a colourful 1990s platformer.

The result amazed me.

Suno preserved the melody and personality of the original composition while giving it a much fuller, cleaner and more polished sound. Hearing something that began as an old Amiga tracker experiment transformed into convincing modern game music was a wonderful experience.

Creating the Candy Dash menu theme

The Candy Dash menu music followed a different creative path.

It began with a back-and-forth collaboration with a music producer through Fiverr. Once we had established the composition and its musical identity, I brought it into Suno and asked for a lively 1990s video-game treatment.

That combination of human composition, creative collaboration and modern production tools has given Candy Dash a soundtrack that feels playful, nostalgic and properly connected to the game.

The Candy Dash title artwork brings together King Angus, Sparkles the Unicorn and some of the creatures encountered in the game.

Play Candy Dash

Candy Dash is a Troll & Unicorn browser platform game in which Troll and Sparkles the Unicorn travel through a colourful—but increasingly dangerous—candy-filled world.

The current version contains two playable levels and runs directly in a web browser:

Candy Dash is still a small game, but it is an important part of a much larger collection of Troll & Unicorn stories, characters, music and interactive projects now taking shape.

Smooth Brains vs Smartarses

At the opposite end of the intellectual spectrum—or possibly somewhere underneath it—we are also developing Smooth Brains vs Smartarses.

This is a satirical lane-defence game inspired by the basic structure of games such as Plants vs. Zombies.

On one side are the chaotic Smooth Brains, armed with crayons, questionable hygiene and complete confidence in terrible ideas. On the other are the painfully organized Smartarses, supported by corporate technology, procedure manuals and an overwhelming need to correct everyone.

The central joke is not simply that one side is messy and the other is clean. It is a battle between reckless stupidity and smug, overengineered intelligence—with both factions possessing their own wonderfully misguided ideas about how the world should operate.

Naturally, both sides require their own musical identity.

The game’s Suno tracks include menu and gameplay music designed to capture the ridiculous clash between grubby chaos and polished corporate order.

Instead of harvesting sunlight, like in Plants Versus Zombies, Stubby harvests crayons as fuel

Braincell Breakdown: the office becomes an arena

The Smooth Brains and Smartarses are also escaping their lanes and entering a completely different kind of game.

Braincell Breakdown is a top-down office arena shooter inspired by the accessible, fast-moving action of games such as Brawl Stars.

Players will choose a character from either faction and battle inside absurd office environments filled with cubicles, meeting rooms, corporate technology, cleaning equipment and the debris of workplace warfare.

Smooth Brain characters favour crude, unpredictable attacks and improvised weapons. The Smartarses fight back with precision, technology, policy enforcement and the absolute certainty that they are the most competent people in the building.

Characters from both factions have distinct attacks, abilities and tactical roles. A lumbering maintenance worker might dominate an area with a cloud of mysterious fumes, while a Smartarse drone attempts to restore order through aggressively enforced cleanliness.

The office setting gives the rivalry a natural home: chaos on one side, rigid corporate control on the other, and an arena in the middle that becomes less professional by the second.

Braincell Breakdown will have its own menu and battle music, giving it a faster and more confrontational musical identity than the lane-defence game while retaining the same satirical world.

Level 1 Arena! Choose your side: the chaotic Smooth Brains or the insufferably efficient Smartarses.

Scope Creep: project management becomes the game

We are also building Scope Creep, a project-management teaching simulator in which changing requirements, impossible deadlines and expanding client expectations become part of the gameplay.

The player must balance the familiar project triangle of scope, time and cost while dealing with demanding stakeholders, unnecessary features, contradictory instructions and the eternal promise that one final change will be “really quick.”

It turns the frustrations of software projects into a humorous strategy challenge—and it has its own Suno-generated music to accompany the escalating chaos.

You can learn more about the project here:

In Scope Creep, every carefully prepared plan is only one stakeholder meeting away from disaster.

Building toward Android

These projects currently use HTML5 and web technology, allowing us to test ideas and make playable versions available through a browser.

Our longer-term plan is to prepare the games for Android first while continuing to improve their graphics, music, gameplay and storytelling.

Suno has become an unexpectedly valuable part of that process. It allows us to experiment with musical direction, revisit older compositions and create recognizable themes for characters, menus and game worlds.

Some pieces begin with original compositions. Some grow from commissioned work and creative collaboration. Others are developed specifically for a new character, location or game concept.

Suno helps us explore, arrange and polish those ideas until they feel at home in the worlds we are building.

Come and listen

The Spinning Monkey Studios music collection will continue to grow as new games, characters and Troll & Unicorn projects move forward.
